Spring Cleaning Blog Series: Clean up your Taskbar and Start Menu

Spring cleaning isn’t just for your home—it’s also essential for keeping your computer running smoothly. This is the fifth blog in our 10-blog series to help you tidy up your PC or Mac:

Clean Up Your Taskbar and Start Menu:

Cleaning up your Taskbar and Start Menu can significantly improve your Windows PC experience. Here’s how it helps:

1. Reduced Clutter:

  • The Windows 10 Start menu can become crowded with various content, including installed apps, favorite apps, and Windows locations.

  • By controlling what details are displayed, you can reduce clutter and make the Start menu more manageable.

2. Customization:

  • Adjust the Start menu settings to your preference:

  • Show App List in Start Menu: Toggle this to display or hide the column with all your installed apps. Turning it off reduces clutter, but you can still access the app list by clicking its icon.

  • Show Recently Added Apps: Displays recently installed apps at the top of the list. Turning it off reduces clutter.

  • Show Most Used Apps: Shows frequently used apps. You can turn this off to declutter the menu.

  • Show Suggestions Occasionally in Start: Another option to reduce the number of listed apps.

  • Choose which folders appear on the left side of the Start menu. Disable folders you don’t access regularly to reduce icons in that area.

3. Uninstall Unneeded Apps:

  • Right-click on an app in the Start menu and select Uninstall to remove applications you no longer need.

4. Organize via File Explorer:

  • Unfortunately, there’s no direct way to organize the app list within the menu.

  • Use File Explorer:

  • Open two instances of File Explorer.

  • Sort and organize your apps by managing shortcuts and files.

Remember, a clean and organized Taskbar and Start Menu lead to a more efficient and pleasant computing experience!
